SPC1017 Group 1 Blog (2nd Blog) - Brandi Cecilio

The third group was the first to begin. Climate change was their chosen issue. They performed an amazing job on the project, and the way everything was set out and the videos were excellent, making me realize how important this issue is. Until I viewed this presentation, I had no idea what climate change was. I had no idea that some of the problems we face on our world are the consequence of our own actions. Droughts are a result of our failure to care for our earth, which means there is no agriculture to eat, which may be extremely difficult in tiny towns near the drought. Another effect is heavy rain, which may wreak havoc on cities and leave people homeless. Climate change has ramifications for everything on the planet, not simply the earth. Climate change may have an impact on our health. It has the potential to harm our respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and mental health. In addition, our air quality is deteriorating, which might transmit illnesses and infections through the air.

change has many additional consequences, but these are only a few. It was discussed in the lecture how we might assist stop climate change. One method is to vote for the individuals who will best serve you in office. Electing the appropriate people to the government may make a significant difference in addressing climate change because we can see what policies they support and pick which will benefit the environment. Another strategy to combat climate change is to use non-coal, non-oil, and non-gas sources of electricity rather than coal, oil, and gas. We can assist by not using as much hot water or using the dryer, and instead of washing and showering with cold water, and drying clothing by hanging them to dry. This group taught me a lot, and the way everything was put up astounded me.

Infrastructure was the topic chosen by the second group. First and foremost, the manner they began the presentation was really wonderful. The song they picked for it, as well as the photographs they chose and the way they transitioned the pictures, were nothing short of incredible. I have to give them credit where credit is due since they did an incredible job. This group taught me that the infrastructure is really divided into 16 groups. I was startled to find that the United States of America, as the world's leading power, spends far less on infrastructure than other countries. China is the world's largest infrastructure spender. While the United States ranks 13th in terms of infrastructure investment, which is unfortunate given our great nation's stature. We are putting a lot of money into other things rather than attempting to improve our infrastructure.

One of the issues that the United States is dealing with is that our infrastructure is insufficient for the number of people that reside in our country. When any infrastructure was built, it was designed for the people of the period. Because of immigration, the United States now has more citizens than it has ever had, and many people desire to come here. We are in need of transportation, as well as water and energy supplies.

Miami is an example of this. Miami has a high rate of immigration, with many Hispanics moving to the city on a regular basis. As a result, we are short on resources, and highways are seeing an increase in traffic since they were built to accommodate the number of people on the roads at the time they were built. Due to the excess of automobiles on the road, I've seen two-lane highways in Miami become four-lane highways. The second group (group 3) stated that having a large number of automobiles on the road causes air pollution, which is a major concern. A video was circulated demonstrating how poor American infrastructure is. It blew my head because I had the completely erroneous impression that American infrastructure was world-class. In the video, an American bridge in California collapsed, trapping one truck and killing the driver. Another example is the FIU bridge, which killed numerous people despite the fact that it might have been averted if we invested a bit more in infrastructure. This is critical because if we do not treat this appropriately, lives may be lost.

Finally, I believe that group one, which included my group, performed an outstanding job. Gender Inequality was the theme of our discussion. Gender disparity has sparked a lot of debate. Abortion is one of them. Many women choose abortions because they do not want to have children, but there is debate over whether it should be legal and if males should be permitted to vote on such issues because they are not women. "My body, my decision" is a phrase that many women will utilize. Abortion is something I feel is immoral since you are aborting a baby's body, which has the right to live just like you.

Another subject that came up was salary parity between men and women. We can see that males used to earn far more than women, but in recent years, the pay gap has narrowed to roughly equal. On average, males continue to earn more than women, although this is due to differences in the types of workmen and women perform. Men are more likely to take on and dominate professional and managerial roles. Teaching will be dominated by women, and there will be many female instructors, which is not a terrible thing. Women, in my view, make better instructors than males because they are more understanding, less irritable, and have more patience than men. Men and women, I feel, have strengths and weaknesses. Some people excel at certain things while others succeed at others.

To summarize, I believe Group 1 did an outstanding job, and I am really pleased of our accomplishments and ready for the next one.
