SPC 1017 GROUP 1 Blog-2

The first group to start off was group 3. The topic they chose was climate change. They did an incredible job on the project and the way everything was laid out and the videos were very good videos that made me understand what an important topic this is. I really did not know what climate change was until I saw this presentation. I didn’t know that that some issues we have on our planet are due to the result of our own doing. Results of us not taking care of our planet are having droughts which mean no agriculture to eat which can be really tough in the small cities surrounding the drought. Another result is intense rain which can devastate cities and leave people homeless. Climate change does not just affect the earth but can affect everything else on it. Climate change can affect our health. It can affect our respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous systems, and mental health. Also, our air quality begins to lessen which can spread diseases through the air and cause infections.

There are many more results of climate change but those are just a few. In the lecture it gave ways we can help stop climate change. One way is to vote for the right people to be in office. Choosing the right politicians into office can really help towards fixing climate change because we can see what policies they believe in, and we can choose which one will better climate change. Another way to stop climate change is by using other things to power electricity instead of using coal, oil, and gas. Ways we can help is not using much hot water or using the drying but instead using cold water to wash clothes and for shower and to dry clothes leave them hanging to dry. I learned a lot from this group and was very blown away by how everything was set up.

The topic the second group chose was infrastructure. First of all, the way, they started the beginning of the presentation was absolutely incredible. The song they chose for it and the pictures they chose and the way, they made the pictures transition was just nothing short of amazing. I have to give them credit where credit was due because that was just fantastic work by them. What I learned from this group is the infrastructure is actually split into 16 groups. I was very surprised to learn that the United States of America which is the leading power in the whole world spends a lot less than other countries to make their infrastructure nice and great. China is the leading spender to build infrastructure. While the United States is 13^th in spending the most on infrastructure which is kind of sad being the great nation we are. We are spending a lot of money elsewhere versus trying to make our infrastructure greater.

Some problems that the United States is facing is that our infrastructure is not enough for how many people live in our nation. Some infrastructure when it was made it was made for the population of that time. Now the United States has more citizens than ever due to immigration and many people wanting to come into the United States. We lack transportation methods and water and energy resources.

An example of this is Miami. Miami has a lot of immigration and has a lot of Hispanics coming in daily to live in Miami. Therefore, we are lacking in resources and roads are getting a lot more traffic because they were made to hold the amount of people on the roads of when the time it was made. I have seen in Miami where 2 lane highways have become 4 lane highways due to the surplus of vehicles on the road. Having a lot of cars on the road also leads to air pollution which was said by the other group (group 3) which is a big issue. There was a video that was shared about how bad American infrastructure really is. It blew my mind because I had the totally wrong mindset that I was thinking American infrastructure was top tier. In the video it showed an American bridge in California fell and there was one truck on it and the driver had died. Another example is the FIU bridge which killed several people, and it is very sad that this can be avoided just if we put a little more effort into the infrastructure. This is very important because lives can be lost if we do not address this properly.

Lastly, group one which was my group I think did a fantastic job. Our topic was on the topic of Gender Inequality. There is a lot of controversy on gender inequality. One of the many is abortion. Many women choose to have abortions due to them not wanting to have the baby, but the controversy is if it should be legal and if men should be allowed to vote for something like that because they are not women. Many women will use the words “My body My choice”. Abortion is something I believe to be wrong because it is not your body that you are aborting but a baby’s body that has every right to live.

Another topic that was talked about was gender equality in wages. We see that men in the past have made a good amount moreover women but in the recent years, it has become to about the equal pay. We still see on average men will make more but that also has to do with what jobs men mainly do and what jobs women will mainly do. Men usually take and dominate more professional and management positions. Women will dominate jobs like teaching and a lot of women are teachers which is not a bad thing at all. In my opinion, women make better teachers than men because women can be more understanding and less hot-tempered than men and can have more patience. I believe men and women have strengths and weaknesses some are better at things while others are better at other things.
